Pernille (Anne Lise) Kirkeby (1907-1976), was the daughter of Anker Kirkeby, editor of "Politiken", a leading Danish newspaper. There are two paintings of her, both of them dated to 1909 (private collections, Woll 827 and 828).Cf. cat. no. 315. Woll 2012, p. 252.
Munch painted two portraits of little Pernille Kirkeby while he was at the clinic in Copenhagen and let her parents choose the version they preferred (letter Kirkeby/Munch March 20, 1910). He also executed two corresponding lithographs of her (Woll 314 and 315). Woll 2009, p. 857.
