In the literature, one can read about Sohlberg's interest in site-specific motifs from Kristiania, both from his own local environment and more industrialized areas along the Akerselva.

In En våraften from 1913, is today a part of the Oslo municipality's art collection and exhibited in the City Hall's administrative service, Sohlberg painted a motif from the fortress of Akershus. The view is seen from the Queen's battery, and westwards towards Oscarshall. This painting was finished within a few weeks. But Sohlberg had worked with variations of this view before, given it a different mood and character. The earlier work is dated and signed 1911 and shows that Sohlberg had already taken an interest in this motif and area in Kristiania.
