August Strindberg (1849-1912) was a Swedish poet and writer, and a close friend of Munch during his early years in Berlin and in Paris 1896. Munch painted a portrait of him in 1892 (Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm, Woll 301). Woll 2012, p. 94.
