How to Sell Art at Auction
Selling through GWPA is a secure and structured process, providing you with personal support from first contact to settlement.
1. Send Images of Your Artwork
Start by emailing photographs and details of the works to hansrichard.elgheim@gwpa.no.
Gather all available information about the artwork — artist name, year, title, technique, signature, and provenance (history of previous ownership). Note any condition issues. Take high-quality images, including close-ups and the signature.
This service is free of charge and entirely non-binding.
2. Receive a Preliminary Valuation
Our specialists will review the works and provide a preliminary valuation, along with recommendations regarding sales potential and the most suitable sales channel (auction or private sale).
3. Arrange a Meeting
If the work is deemed suitable for sale, we will schedule a meeting — either at your home or at our offices at Bankplassen 1A (Oslo, Norway). Still with no obligation or cost.
4. Sales Agreement and Plan
We will discuss a bespoke sales plan tailored to your artwork. The sales agreement includes:
- Valuation and reserve price
- Timing of sale and transport
- Any restoration or insurance requirements
- Agreed commission and terms
5. Preparation and Marketing
Once consigned, GWPA begins with technical assessments, photography, and marketing. Each work is presented individually in our catalogue and through targeted digital campaigns aimed at relevant buyer groups.
6. Before the Auction
We keep you informed about pre-sale interest from collectors and galleries.
7. During the Auction
You can follow the sale live via our streaming service during major auctions and on Invaluable, or online when the work is part of an online auction.
8. After the Sale
Auction results are published immediately on our website. Settlement is paid to the consignor 30 days after the auction.
