Edvard Munch was obviously a well-known figure in Café Bauer in Berlin. It was situated at Berlin's most famous street, Unter den Linden. Here he would be able to collect money sent to him. In a letter to his aunt Karen Bjølstad, dated 08. 1902, he says among other things:

"Dear Aunt,
I will be traveling to Berlin on Wednesday to collect some Paintings for an Exhibition in Copenhagen - I will have to travel immediately, so I cannot ... wait for some Money due to me from Bergen, so I (must) ask you to send me by telegraph ... 60 kroners. Address: Cafe Bauer." The Munch Museum, MM N 851.
