Inscribed on label found on reverse, from Aftenposten 10.04.1975: ""Picture of the week" on Høvikodden. Today, the art centre at Høvikodden continues its new column "Picture of the week" with a work by Jakob Weidemann. "Leaf" was a part of Weidemann's first exhibition in Paris 1963 - in the gallery Villand & Galanis, and marks his international breakthrough. The materialistic, which was so characteristic for his so-called "forest ground pictures" from a couple of years earlier, have had to give way to colour. It is colour alone that conveys the expression. The title tells us that it is an experience with nature that is the foundation, without the painter giving us any detailed rendering of the leaf itself. The painting plays on red, green, yellow, and blue, and almost gives a lyrical impression on its viewer. The painter has captured the beauty of nature's play on colours, and in this way conveys his experience onto us.
