Fearnley, Thomas(1802-1842)
The Bykle Path in Setesdal (1825)

Oil on canvas
55x47 cm
Signed and dated lower centre: TF y. 1825.

The Bykle Path is a steep and once-notorious section of the old Setesdal road in Bykle municipality, Agder county. Here, the road partly climbed in steps over bare rock, passing a steep mountainside along the River Otra. Until a new road was built along the river in 1878, all traffic between Valle and Bykle had to pass via the Bykle Path. The old road construction was restored in 1975 and is today a hiking trail.
