LITERATURE: Gerd Woll: Edvard Munch – The complete graphic Works, Oslo 2012, cat.no. 196.

Walter Leistikow (1865-1908) was a German painter and writer. He was one of the artists who defended Munch’s art in Berlin in 1892, and an important supporter in 1902 when Munch showed his series “Die Liebe” (“Love”) in the Berlin secession. He was married to Anna Leistikow, née Mohr, whom Munch has portrayed in a small drypoint, cf. cat. no. 195. Munch probably used a photograph taken in his studio in the late winter 1902 as a basis for this portrait (Eggum 1987, p. 100-101). P. 193.
