LITERATURE: Gerd Woll: Edvard Munch - The complete graphic Works, Oslo 2012, cat.no. 407.
The model is probably Karen Borgen (Haugen) (1876-ca. 1960), mother of Solveig and Ingeborg Kaurin (cf. cat. no. 393). After her divorce from Kaurin in 1904 she took the name Borgen. Later she remarried and acquired the surname Haugen. Munch used her as a model for Alma Mater in the University Festival Hall decorations. P. 288.
