Evangeline Muddock (1883-1953), British violinist who took the stage name Eva Mudocci. Jens Thiis writes of Eva Mudocci and the Danish pianist Bella (Isabella) Edwards (1866-1974) (translated): "I became acquainted with them before Munch did, in Trondheim during a concert tour, when we had a little party for them in our home at Stavne. The brooch which Eva Mudocci is wearing is traditional Norwegian jewellery which I gave her on this occasion." (Jens Thiis, 1933 "Edvard Munch", s. 252, fotnote).

The woman in the lithography is possibly one of Munch's most iconic depictions of women; a female figure depicted in half-figure that is seen from below. The picture surface is filled with her flowing hair and her gaze is turned to the side and lowered. Her pale face and the brooch on her chest create a nice contrast to the lithograph's black areas. The model for the depiction is said to be Eva Mudocci, whom Munch became acquainted with in 1902. Mudocci was at that time a famous violinist who toured with concerts alongside the pianist Bella Edwards.
