In 1896, the colour lithography was 100 years old and gained increased popularity. Especially At this time, the best printers of this technique were found in Paris, who helped to establish colour lithography as an autonomous art form. Munch arrives in Paris in February 1896 and in several drafts of letters it is revealed that Munch worked with both lithographs and etchings. Until the end of his stay in May 1897, it is unknown how much he worked on the prints, but the overall production from this period is nevertheless large: 35 lithographs, 12 woodcuts and etchings. All of Munch's lithographs from 1896 in Paris were printed by the renowned lithographer Auguste Clot.
