Online Auctions at Grev Wedels Plass Auksjoner

An online auction at GWPA allows you to acquire art directly via the internet — simple, secure and available around the clock. You bid against the clock, and each lot has its own countdown timer.

The online auction is our fully digital auction format, enabling you to participate from anywhere in the world without being present in the saleroom. It operates independently of our traditional live auctions and selling exhibitions, offering a flexible and user-friendly experience for buyers.

How an Online Auction Works

In an online auction, you place bids directly in the auction catalogue on our website. Each lot features an individual timer counting down to the closing time. When the clock reaches zero, the highest bid wins the lot.

This format is entirely digital and takes place without an auctioneer. You follow the progress in real time on your screen. The system updates bids automatically, and you may participate via computer, tablet, or mobile phone.

How to Participate

To place a bid, you need a registered user account. Log in via the top right-hand corner of our website, or easily create a new account here: “Log in or register”: /en/login.

Step-by-step guide:

  1. Log in with your account or register as a new client.
  2. Find the desired lot and place your bid.
  3. Follow the countdown — bidding remains open until the clock reaches zero.
  4. You will receive an email confirmation if you are outbid or if you win the lot.

If you encounter issues with logging in or bidding, please contact us at +47 22 86 21 86 or by email at maria.hoy@gwpa.no.

The Difference Between Online and Live Auctions

An online auction should not be confused with online bidding during our live auctions. In a live auction, bidders compete in real time alongside those present in the room, whereas an online auction runs independently, without a physical auctioneer.

Key distinctions:

  • The online auction takes place exclusively in digital form.
  • Each lot has its own individual countdown.
  • No auctioneer — bids are processed automatically by the system.
  • You can participate at any time during the auction period.

This makes online auctions more flexible, yet just as secure as all other GWPA sales.

Why Choose Online Auctions?

Online auctions offer a more accessible way to purchase art. You can participate from anywhere, at your own pace, and follow bidding in real time.

Benefits of online auctions:

  • Available 24 hours a day — you decide when to participate.
  • Simple registration and secure digital bidding.
  • Instant updates on bids and closing times.
  • The same professional expertise and assurance as in our traditional sales.

Bidding Tips

To make the most of your online auction experience, we recommend:

  1. Registering well before the auction begins.
  2. Reading each lot description and estimate carefully.
  3. Monitoring the countdown towards the close.
  4. Using the maximum bid function if you cannot follow the final bidding live.
